Hotatsu Late Game Guide

Hotatsu is an epic defense-based champion from the Shadowkin faction. He has strong and useful skills for PVE content, but there are some important points to consider. This guide is built around a CB team, with Hotatsu playing the central role and the rest of the team functioning around him. It is also worth noting that Hotatsu is fully booked. However, you primarily need books only for A3, only book A1 and A2 if you need these skills.

Skills

His A1 attacks the enemy 1 time and places Leech debuff. Allies dealing damage to an enemy under this debuff receive healing equal to 18% of the damage, however, this is less than the Lifesteal Set (30%), this should be taken into account when gearing your team, focusing on defense, not health.

His A2 attacks all enemies and places Decrease ATK debuff on them, but the chance of the debuff is only 80% fully booked, which makes him unreliable for clan boss if he’s the sole champion for this role.

Hotatsu’s A3 places a Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs on the team, which is great for any area of the game. His passive removes 1 random debuff from him, however, it removes the debuff after the game reduces skill cooldowns. This means that if we get a Stun from CB and remove it with a passive skill, skill cooldowns will not be reduced, which essentially increases cooldowns by 1 turn and we will need to deal with it. Hotatsu has a good aura that increases Defense for all allies by 25%.

Masteries

For best results in CB and other Bosses Warmaster T6 mastery is the number one choice. Single Out from the Offense branch and other damage increasing masteries are a good choice. For the second branch it is better to take Support with the Sniper and Master Hexer, to extend the duration of debuffs and increase the chance of placing a Decrease ATK and Leech debuffs.

In CB we will use a strict speed tune, so no TM increasing masteries can be selected in order not to break the speed tune.

Gear & Stats Build

In this build, we’re playing off the fact that the enemies will have a Leech debuff, so we don’t need a Lifesteal set, which gives us alternative set choices. The only condition is that sets and accessories do not manipulate the Turn Meter or skills cooldown reduction.

We need to reach around 230 Accuracy and Speed for our CB team, in this case its 245, then focus on Defense and Health. Crit Rate and Crit Damage are good stats, but it is better to look for them in additional parameters. The rest of the stats are not that important.

Recommended Main Stats

  • Gloves – DEF%/HP%
  • Chest – DEF%/HP%
  • Boots – SPD
  • Ring – DEF/HP
  • Amulet – DEF/HP
  • Banner – ACC.

Using Revenge Accessory is a great way to increase the stability of the Leech debuff and increase the damage.

Clan Boss Team

Since Hotatsu will remove the Stun with his passive skill and we are counting on this when linking team speeds, we need to provide all the conditions for this:

  1. We choose a team to work with a 4:3 turn rotation for Hotatsu to cycle his skills, because they have a 4 turn cooldown now.
  2. We need to make sure that Hotatsu gets the Stun, otherwise the skills rotation will fail and the passive skill cooldown will fail. Therefore, we need to monitor the fight and intervene if something starts to go wrong.
  3. Void affinity Boss place Poisons on the team with his A1, other affinity Bosses place debuffs on their A2, if Hotatsu gets a turn and there is a debuff on him, the passive skill will be activated and go on cooldown, which means he does not remove the Stun. This forces us to choose to line up either a champion with Block Debuffs buff or a cleanser. This will need to be done on the 1st and 2nd cycle of the boss’s moves, after which the team enters the correct rotation and you can go on auto.

Composition

So, here is an example of a budget team of a 4:3 Counterattack team to 2-key NM and 3/4-key UNM Clan Boss without legendaries.

  1. Hotatsu at 245 Speed for Leech debuff and Increase DEF plus Continuous Heal buffs.
  2. Skullcrusher at 195 Speed for CounterAttack buff.
  3. Geomancer at 188 Speed for Weaken and HP burn debuffs plus DPS.
  4. Tayrel at 176 Speed for Decrease Def and ATK debuffs.
  5. Urogrim at 182 Speed for cleansing minor debuffs from Hotatsu and Poisons.

The speed range is very tight, so be sure to check the True Speed. This team will not work on the Spirit affinity boss due to the speed debuff that will break the rotation of moves and also because Hotatsu is a strong affinity and the boss will not Stun him.

Faction Wars

Hotatsu excels in the Faction Wars. In this location, he helps the team with all his buffs and debuffs. Decrease ATK very important, especially on the 21st floor where the boss hits very hard ignoring the Defense. The Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs keeps the team survivable at a high level.

Here is an example of a team for farming Crypt 21:

  1. Hotatsu for AOE Decrease ATK debuff and Increase DEF plus Continuous Heal buffs.
  2. Burangiri for Stun and Provoke debuffs.
  3. Genbo the Dishonored for DPS on waves.
  4. Ninja for DPS on boss itself plus Freeze debuff on waves.
  5. Kunoichi for Ally Protection buff.

Dungeons Runs

Dragon 20

In the Dragon’s Lair dungeon, Hotatsu’s main task is to place AOE Decrease ATK debuff and increase team survivability by placing Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs. These all help a lot on the waves of the dungeon and on the Boss itself. Here is an example composition for Dragon 20 with no revive:

  1. Tayrel for AOE Decrease DEF and Decrease АТК debuffs.
  2. Apothecary for SPD buff and healing.
  3. Shatterbones for DPS, Decrease enemies TM plus SPD debuff.
  4. Hotatsu for AOE Decrease ATK debuff and Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs.
  5. Frozen Banshee to quickly kill the Dragon with Poisons.

Ice Golem 20

In the Ice Golem’s Peak dungeon, the Boss is the biggest threat. His unpredictability due to how hard his Counterattacks after reaching certain HP threshold hit. Without Decrease ATK, the end of the battle can come at any moment due to the high damage potential. Hotatsu will help with this plus this useful buffs help keeping the team alive. Here is an example composition for Ice Golem 20 with no reviver :

  1. Tayrel for AOE Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK debuffs.
  2. Apothecary for SPD buff and healing.
  3. Elhain for DPS.
  4. Hotatsu for AOE Decrease ATK debuff and Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs.
  5. Frozen Banshee to quickly kill the boss with Poisons.

Spider 20

Spider’s Den dungeon is difficult to complete if you do not have the good meta champions.

One of the budget tactics is to put 1 negative affinity champion on the boss that can survive spiderlings attacks. AOE Decrease ATK can help with that goal a lot and his buffs increase the survivability of the champion who absorbs damage. Magic affinity allows Hotatsu to avoid being the target for the spiderlings at lvl 20. Here is an example of budget tactic composition for Spider 20:

  1. Tayrel for AOE Decrease DEF and ATK debuff plus Decrease Boss TM.
  2. Apothecary for SPD buff and healing.
  3. Rhazin Scarhide for tanking damage from spiderlings with Lifesteal set and GS T6.
  4. Hotatsu for AOE Decrease ATK debuff and Increase Def and Continuous Heal buffs.
  5. Armiger to decrease the Turn Meter and quickly kill the Boss with MAX HP skill.

Fire Knight 20

Although Hotatsu does not have multi-hit but only single hits, he can be used against the Fire Knight, his Decrease ATK debuff is important on the boss itself and on waves plus his useful buffs will be great help in clearing. Unfortunately, at lvl 20, he is a weak affinity and this creates additional difficulties that a good team helps to cope with. Here is an example composition for Fire Knight 20 with no reviver:

  1. Hotatsu for AOE Decrease ATK debuff and useful buffs.
  2. Deacon Armstrong for AOE Decrease DEF buff and TM manipulation.
  3. Apothecary for SPD buff and healing.
  4. Shatterbones for DPS and Decrease SPD debuff.
  5. Armiger to Decrease the turn meter and quickly kill the Boss with MAX HP skill.
