But, the KBD lair itself is in a non-wilderness area. Since you need to travel through the wilderness it is not recommended to bring more than 4 expensive items.
The boss itself is relatively easy to kill, especially if you have dragonbone weapons such as the DHCB or lance. The King Black Dragon is also weak to stab so any type of stab weapon will work well here.
