Raid Shadow Legends: Tormin the Cold Champion Guide

Tormin the Cold is a legendary void affinity champion from the dwarves faction in Raid Shadow Legends. On this champions initial release back in 2019, he was insane for arena teams and pretty much ruined the experience for anyone without him. However, since then he has now been nerfed, but nonetheless he is still a great champion to use in the arena, mainly platinum arena. His main benefits lie in his passive effect, which has the opportunity to freeze enemies that place turn meter boosts or team buffs.

Tormin End Game Arena Build Guide

Tormin is the classic strong arena champion that excels in multiple roles in one package. He is incredibly versatile – serving an irreplaceable role in different arena metagame since release. He primarily serves three roles:

  1. Crowd Control (CC): Freezes champions that cannot resist his passive after they get a buff or a turn meter (TM) boost. Has an active taunt and crowd control freeze on A1 and A3.
  2. Remove Buffs: Removes buffs from a single champion and hits the target for decent damage.
  3. Stall: Delays a potential loss by reviving himself.

As a defensive and a potentially good damage champion, he can also surprise the enemy into neglecting his presence and causing havoc. The downside to Tormin is that his CC procs are not always reliable with only a low to average chance of proccing, so he is not a guaranteed speed arena farmer. His base speed is also fairly low, so he is often used mainly for his passive in the first turn.

Masteries

For a damage build, Helmsmasher is often preferred due to its shock damage potential. There are other builds possible with Tormin in terms of masteries including Fearsome Presence for more CC and Eagle Eye for high Accuracy. However, for Platinum arena the damage build can sometimes be the X factor to achieve a competitive edge.

Gear & Stats Build

It is fairly more common now to operate Tormin as a damage champion, rather than a defensive champion (with a high resistance) or high accuracy champion in the current meta. This is because we often only want him to freeze some key champions (e.g. debuffer Madame or damager Trunda), whilst being able to dish out corresponding damage.

To that end, around 200-300 accuracy for Platinum is enough, as most enemy attackers will not have high resist, and prioritising crit damage and defence is more important. Gear can be flexible and can include: Shield set, Swift parry, Damage gear (savage, crit damage), or broken sets. As long as you can gain a high crit rate, crit damage, defence, speed and accuracy as suggested by the screenshot you’re well on your way to achieving good results

Recommended Main Stats

  • Glove: Crit Damage
  • Chest: Def%
  • Boots: Speed
  • Ring: Def
  • Amulet: Def or Crit Damage
  • Banner: Def or Acc

Arena Compositions and Tactics

In the Arena, Tormin can perform good in a few different ways, with different team compositions and strategies. Some of which are listed below.

Counter Speed Team

If your speed lead is slower than the enemy, Tormin can freeze them if they buff first. Be aware of Siphi / Duchess speed leads that can block debuffs, or immunity set teams. Operates well with a counter-attack from Valk and a defence buff.

Hegemon Team

Hegemon opening can often kill a dps or two, but enemy Arbiter will resurrect them and Tormin can freeze them after this.

Stall Team

At arena reset in Platinum at the last hour the race is on to stay there. Tormin adds vital seconds to your defence team game, especially with a swift parry set. Some players avoid attacking Tormin teams.

Justification for Damage Build

Tormin is often better in a damage build because he can do excellent damage and there is a prevalence of immunity sets or block debuffs in current meta. He has 2 AOE attacks, and a very strong single target attack, so not using him for damage is often a waste. Opponents in general are often unsure what gear Tormin uses, and generally leave him to be attacked last because he might be in a freeze set and his high defence means it is more efficient to attack a damage champion or a healer. This gives Tormin more opportunity to surprise the enemy with damage and crowd control at same time.

However, Tormin in a damage build is not without his issues and there are many challenges:

  1. Easily controlled and focused, hence swift parry is often used. This can be countered by block buffs from champions such Gurptuk.
  2. His CC procs are temperamental.
  3. His revive ability can be blocked by champions such as Lydia and Inithwe.

Tormin is also useful in dungeons for Crowd Control and Faction Wars (FW), but in general he is a dedicated arena champion.
