Raid Shadow Legends: Martyr Champion Guide

Martyr is a legendary spirit affinity champion from the sacred order faction in Raid Shadow Legends. She is among some of the strongest champions in the game, with applications at a wide variety of areas including clan boss, faction wars, dungeons, doom tower and more. Her A2 ability is arguably her best, which increases her and her team mates defence and enables a counter-attack buff for 2 turns. She is one of only a few champions who can place a counter-attack buff on the team, this is super important for areas such as clan boss. This guide will include in-depth setup advice and guidance for dungeon stages 20-25, faction wars, clan boss, magma dragon and campaign farming.

Martyr End Game Clan Boss Guide

Martyr is an incredibly unique and strong legendary champion. Her versatile kit allows for her to be used in most content such as: FW 21, DT hard, UNM Clan Boss, Arena, and most dungeons. The main aspect to Martyr’s kit is that she is one of only three champions in Raid that provides the AOE Counter Attack (CA) buff to the team making her an incredibly sought after champion in the game. In this section of the guide we will be covering her in Clan Boss.

Skills

On Clan Boss her A2 skill provides both Counterattack and Defence up. Furthermore, Martyr alone can consistently ensure that Defence Down is on a 100% uptime due to her A1. Due to Martyr counterattacking with her A1, you would be very unlucky for Defence Down not to land or your Accuracy is insufficient/CB is negative affinity.

Masteries

When picking Martyr’s Masteries, you can choose the following:

  • If you want her Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK and you can reach 230 Acc with your gear choose Offence and Defence trees for extra DPS and survivability.
  • If your other 4 champions can consistently land Atk/Def down debuff on the CB can also pick Offence and Defence trees and ignore Acc.
  • If you need her debufs and can’t get enough with her gear you can select Offence and Support trees to make up for the Accuracy deficit.

Offence and Defence trees were chosen for this Late Game+ showcase. Martyr will be used mainly for her A2 to enable Counterattack and Def up on the entire team. Warmaster is a must as it ensures champions gets fully healed when going in for an attack or counter attack with a lifesteal set. Notable masteries leading up to Warmaster include: Deadly Precision and Keen Strike for extra damage, Single Out, Bring it Down and Methodical for extra damage against higher hp targets and longer fights.

For the Defence tree, Tough skin, Blastproof and Delay Death were taken for extra defence and survivability as well as Retribution and Deterrence for extra chance to counterattack.

Martyr clan boss masteries

Gear & Stats Build

Against the Clan Boss, Martyr and the rest of the team work well in Lifesteal to ensure health is regained through counterattacks if there is no Leech debuff in the composition.

Due to Martyr being a Defence based champion, not only do you want to stack defence for survivability against the clan boss, but you also want enough Defence to allow her to reach the top potential of her damage. 4200 Defence is what you should be aiming for to be able to tank hits. Aside from Defence, Crit rate and Crit dmg also play a role in delivering a lot of damage to the clan boss so ideally you would want to pump these numbers as high as possible. 220+ Accuracy is also needed if martyr is your only Def Down champ

In a classic 1:1 clan boss team, Martyr would need to be the slowest on the team (ideally 191 or 171 speed) to ensure that everyone gets 2 turns of Counterattack and Def up. This allows all champs to attack an extra 2 times per rotation allowing for more damage, and survivability through Warmaster/Giantslayer + Lifesteal.

Clan Boss Team Build

This team composition features:

  1. Martyr – AOE Counterattack and Def Down.
  2. Frozen Banshee – Poisons.
  3. Underpriest Brogni – Shield and block debuffs. Giant Slayer for additional damage for the whole team based on the shields buff.
  4. Sandlashed Survivor – Buff extension and passive ally protect.
  5. Krisk the Ageless – Permanent Increase speed, Buff Extension and Ally protection.

This team works for a comfortable 2 key UNM and 1 key NM if tuned correctly and with enough upgrades. Including a champion with Weaken debuff can also help this composition further increase the dps and reach one key on all affinities.

Champions such as Lydia the Deathsiren can take Krisk’s place provided you have another form of buff extension such as Godseeker Aniri. Martyr’s job is the same as usual, applying the Counterattack and Def up buff, and then having those buffs extended. Note that this comp is affinity friendly due to Brogni applying the Block Debuffs. However, any champion with a block debuffs buff such as Sepulcher Sentinel can be used to replace Brogni.

Martyr End Game General PVE Guide

Martyr has lots of utility outside of CB and is not so picky about masteries and gear when used in other areas. In particular, she does not need to be speed tuned and this allows to build her faster and lap the waves of enemies of increased efficiency.

Skills

Martyr’s A1 has a 75% chance to land Decrease Def when fully booked. As her A1 is single target, Martyr will not be your primary Dec Def debuffer for waves and wave ads. Her A1 will however, ensure that Decrease Def is on a 100% uptime against bosses because of the high debuff chance followed by a Counterattack.

Martyr’s A2 is where she truly shines. Counter Attack is an incredibly valuable buff to have due to allowing your team to ensure debuffs from A1’s land. Not only that, but counterattacking can trigger Warmaster/Giant Slayer procs which will also increase damage potential and ensure that your champs get fully healed (if wearing lifesteal). Martyr also provides a 60% Increase Def buff for your entire team ensuring high rates of sustainability.

Martyr’s A3 locks enemies out with Provoke and AOE Dec Atk. Ideally, you want Martyr to use her A2 first as these abilites synergise. It is advisable to book her A2 and A3 to get her on a consistent cycle of abilities. Her A1 doesn’t require booking but can be very useful. Only book A1 if you need consistent Def Down on a single target.

Masteries

For a dungeon focused Martyr, the Offence and Defence trees have been chosen – Warmaster for the T6 mastery, Retribution and Deterrence for the defensive T5 masteries. The route down to these masteries are all taken to increase Martyr’s damage and survivability. If you are struggling with meeting the Accuracy requirements then going down the Support tree instead of the Defence tree would be advised for the extra accuracy.

Martyr masteries

Gear & Stats Build

Due to the nature of Martyr’s kit, she has some specific requirements that should be met when building her. Martyr needs a good level of speed, ideally, 191+ if achievable, as this will save you the hassle of speed tuning her for clan boss. It also is a good baseline for high level dungeons as she wont be too slow to be overwhelmed. 200+ speed is preferrable to lap the waves and go twice if you’re not using her on CB.

Accuracy and Defence also need to be taken into account. Purely for CB and dungeons, you would be aiming for 230+ accuracy and 4000+ defence to ensure she lands her debuffs and doesn’t immediately get taken out since she’ll often be targeted thanks to her Provoke. Martyr can also hit quite hard, so if you can reach these stats, 100% Crit Rate and as much Crit Damage as possible is wanted.

Martyr’s Aura of 33% DEF in all battles can help massively in helping reaching the 4000 mark for her Defence as just this aura allows her to gain slightly over 420 DEF.

The most universal set for Martyr is Lifesteal. Paired with the Warmaster mastery, she can keep herself alive in most situations. Speed, Accuracy and Perception are good alternatives if she can meet the stat requirements. There is another set that works quite well on Martyr outside of clan boss. The Frost set has some good synergy with Martyr’s A3 meaning every attacker has a chance of being frozen for a turn just after they were forced to attack Martyr due to Provoke. This set has uses across the dungeons and Doom Tower, however Martyr will need additional support to ensure she is kept topped up in health if she is not using lifesteal.

Recommended Main Stats

  • Gloves: Crit Rate
  • Chest: Def%
  • Boots: Speed
  • Ring: Def with Def% subs
  • Amulet: Crit Dmg or Def
  • Banner: Accuracy with speed subs

As the gear is very def orientated, reaching a healthy amount of hp can prove to be difficult. Aim for around 35,000 health. If this can’t be achieved then the amulet may need to be changed to hp to accompany this.

Martyr PVE Build

Campaign Farming

Martyr can be used as a consistent 20 second campaign farmer in brutal 12-3 due to her raw damage and tanking abilities and makes for a good choice for a 6 star if you were lucky enough to pull her after your starter. While it is not recommended to use her for this purpose in Late Game+ it shows just how versatile she can be for progression.

For the first wave Martyr is to use her A3 to one shot the entire wave. Wave 2 requires for Martyr to use her A2 followed by her A1 multiple times to clear this wave. As Martyr can one shot the enemies with her A1 she will have her A3 back in time for wave 3. Once she reaches wave 3 she will one shot them again with her A3 similar to wave 1. Martyr does have strong multipliers on her A3 and A1 but it is still recommended to give her enough Crit Damage to be able to consistently one shot all of the enemies. In terms of speed, she only needs to be faster but not necessarily double speed as she won’t need to go twice.

Dungeon Runs

Dragon 20

As a versatile champion, Martyr has uses both for waves and bosses with her abilities. While Martyr is negative affinity for Dragon 20 she can work well enough as the tank. As a general rule AOE Counterattack slows down the runs making them not speed runs by default. This section of the guide will focus on progression with Martyr and making sure the runs are nice and stable.

Her job on Dragon 20 is to ensure ally Counter Attack buff is applied to make wave clearing easier. Martyr can pair particularly well with an A1 aoe champion in a stun set such as bellower which was showcased in both videos below. Not only that, but Martyr’s A3 ensures that the enemy waves won’t be attacking your other champions. If you don’t have a reviver then this ability is particularly helpful in ensuring that Martyr takes the heat. For the boss, Martyr’s A1 ensures that defence down is on a 100% uptime as well as having the Counterattack and Def up buffs.

Team Build

  1. Martyr
  2. Scyl of the Drakes for healing/revive
  3. Warmaiden for AOE Def down
  4. Frozen Banshee for Poisons against the boss
  5. Bellower for AOE stuns and pairing with Martyr
Martyr dragon 20

Spider 20

For Spider 20, Martyr’s main job is to provoke the enemy spiderlings so that the rest of your team can carry out their roles without running into any issues. Between having AOE HP burn and TM decrease, you’ll find your champions having an easier time when they aren’t being targeted.

Martyr is mainly used for her A3 provoke, however, her A2 also comes in handy for taking down the spiderlings before the big spider uses its consume and healing ability. TM decrease champion was not used in this composition, otherwise you would want to keep the spiderlings alive as long as possible to ensure as much HP burn damage to the main spider as possible.

Team Build

  1. Martyr
  2. Venus – AOE HP burn
  3. Scyl of the Drakes – heals/revive/stuns
  4. Miscreated Monster – Shields/stuns
  5. Apothecary – Heals/speed inc

Venus can be replaced with any champion that has aoe HP burn to emulate this composition. Also, there are other alternative builds you can use with Martyr on Spider 20, e.g. using one of the negative affinity tanks with AOE A1. A working example would be Sinesha or Infernal Baronness for this stage. The constant Counterattack coupled with lifesteal and Warmaster on your tank can be the key for victory if you have no better alternatives.

Martyr spider 20

Fire Knight 20

For Fire Knight, players tend to have a difficult time being able to break through both the shield and cause damage and Martyr shines on the boss stage. Martyr’s counterattack is incredibly useful in making sure the the Fire Knight shield is low just after he’s had his turn. This is because the counterattacks from the entire team will cause the shield charges of the Fire Knight to go down considerably before even having their actual turns. This is amplified if the other champions have multiple attacks on their A1.

For the waves, Martyr also helps ensure the waves are provoked to stop the rest of your team suffering too much damage.

Team Build

  1. Martyr
  2. Scyl of the Drakes – used for extra stuns as well as healing and revive the team.
  3. Stag Knight – helps against both waves and the boss by ensuring both Atk and Def Down are applied.
  4. Apothecary – has a 3 hit A1 which helps against the FK shield as well as providing inc speed and heals.
  5. Coldheart – is used mainly for TM depletion, heal reduction and MAX HP nuke.
Martyr fire knight 20

Ice Golem 20

For Ice Golem 20, Martyr’s primary job is to ensure smooth wave clears. For 20 specifically, Martyr can use her A3 to stop the shriek ability from occurring on wave 2 which is known to be an issue for many players as reflect can be problematic.

Martyr can also be useful against the Ice Golem himself but has a difficult time due to Counterattack being able to proc the Ice Golem’s Frigid Vengeance. For Ice Golem 25 specifically it may be a good idea to turn off Martyr’s A2 so that Martyr can be used for def down and atk down on the boss.

Team Build

  1. Martyr.
  2. Scyl of the Drakes – Heals/revive.
  3. Stag Knight – AOE Atk and Def down.
  4. Apothecary – Inc speed buff and heals.
  5. Kael – Poisons.
Martyr ice golem 20

Dragon 25

Similar to Dragon 20, Martyr’s job on Dragon 25 remains the same. For the waves, Martyr uses her A3 to CC the waves and force them to only use their A1’s as well as placing a decrease atk debuff for sustainability allowing the rest of your team to set up if need be. Martyr’s A2 is used to buff up the team and apply extra damage from counterattacking – this works especially well with a champion that has an aoe on their A1 as stun set will see a lot of enemies being stunned. Bellower is used in this example.

It is important to note that she is not a speed runner as the CA animations slow down the runs. However, she can be useful to clear for missions or to improve the consistency. For Dragon all of Martyr’s abilities see use. Her A1 ensures def down is consistenly landing on the dragon and her A3 places atk down stopping any losses from occurring too early. Lastly, Martyr’s A2 allows for extra damage through counterattacking and def up. This ability pairs especially well with an A1 poisoner such as Frozen Banshee.

Team Build

  1. Martyr.
  2. Scyl of the Drakes for healing/revive.
  3. Warmaiden for AOE Def Down.
  4. Frozen Banshee for Poisons against the boss.
  5. Bellower for AOE stuns and pairing with Martyr.
Martyr dragon 25

Spider 25

For Spider 25, the same principle from Spider 20 applies. Martyr is used for provoking the spiderlings whilst the rest of the team either helps with CC against the spiderlings or takes down the main spider through HP burn and TM decrease. Martyr will also help in killing the spiders before the main Spider heals.

Team Build

  1. Martyr.
  2. Venus – hp burn.
  3. Scyl of the Drakes – heals/revive/stuns.
  4. Miscreated Monster – Shields/stuns.
  5. Coldheart – TM manipulation and damage.

Venus can be replaced like in spider 20 for any champ that offers aoe hp burn. Coldheart is mainly there to stop the main spider from using it’s healing ability and so, can be replaced with any champ that offers TM decrease. Note that all the bosses have TM depletion efficiency halved and so AOE HP Burn becomes the weapon of choice for Spider stages 21.

Martyr dragon 25

Fire Knight 25

For FK 25, the shield has an extra 2 charges compared to FK 20 which makes breaking through the shield that much more difficult. This is why Martyr’s Counterattacking buff is in turn much more useful. Having champs with multi hitting A1’s also works very well with the Counterattack buff. Martyr’s kit works well against the waves leading up to the Fire Knight as she can keep the mobs provoked and then Counterattack with the rest of the team.

For FK 25, the same team from FK 20 is used as the idea is the same as previously mentioned. It does however take longer as the FK does get a few extra turns and due to the Counterattack animations.

Team Build

  1. Martyr
  2. Scyl is used for extra stuns as well as healing and revive the team.
  3. Stag Knight helps against both waves and the boss by ensuring both Atk and Def Down are applied.
  4. Apothecary has a 3 hit A1 which helps against the FK shield as well as providing inc speed and heals.
  5. Coldheart is used mainly for TM depletion, heal reduction and MAX HP nuke. Note that her efficiency is reduced on stages 21+ However, she remains a solid choice for her overall kit on FK.
Martyr fire knight 25

Ice Golem 25

For Ice Golem 25, Martyr’s primary job is to ensure smooth wave clears. Martyr can be useful against the Ice Golem himself but has a difficult time due to Counterattack being able to proc the Ice Golem’s Frigid Vengeance. For Ice Golem 25 specifically it may be a good idea to turn off Martyr’s A2 so that Martyr can be used for def down and atk down on the boss.

Team Build

  1. Martyr
  2. Seer – Wave clear.
  3. Lydia the Deathsiren – Buffs for Seer and Decrease DEF/Weaken.
  4. Duchess Lilitu – Reviving and buffs.
  5. Renegade – Cooldown reset.

A team like this would not be necessary if you use champions that can block revive against the IG side ads such as Armiger and Fenax.

Martyr ice golem 25

Martyr in Magma Dragon

Against the Magma Dragon, Martyr is particularly useful due to her provoke and atk down debuffs that stops the boss from attacking the entire team. Pair this with Martyr’s A2 and she’ll be ensuring that the team has a higher survivability along with taking the boss’ health down with ease.

The main idea for using Martyr is to stop the boss from landing his debuffs on the entire team which eventually enables the boss to deal massive amount of damage against you, so to avoid this, the Magma Dragon needs to be provoked as often as possible.

Team Composition

  1. Martyr
  2. Maulie Tankard
  3. Scyl of the Drakes
  4. Tayrel
  5. Vrask

Between Martyr and Maulie, the Dragon is provoked for most of the fight which allows for breathing room for the rest of your team. Maulie can be replaced with another champ that ideally uses provoke (or uses the provoke artifact set). Scyl is used for additional healing. Tayrel is there to benefit from Martyr’s Inc Def to increase his damage output and has aoe def down for the waves before hand. Finally, Vrask is used for extra heals.

Martyr magma dragon

Martyr in Faction Wars

Martyr is very useful in FW and can play a pivotal part in ensuring you complete the Sacred Order faction. Her kit can allow for CC and may be your consistent source of DEF Down for this faction. With all this in mind, Martyr can help carry your team through the waves with all of her abilities and also ensure that the boss gets taken down quickly and efficiently with the Counterattack buff.

Team Composition

  1. Martyr
  2. Venus
  3. Inquisitor Shamael
  4. Astralon
  5. Godseeker Aniri

Venus and Shamael were mainly there for extra damage against the waves and the boss so they can be replaced with any crowd control champions. Astralon is used mainly for the stun and Aniri is used to revive if necessary. She can also be replaced by another form of CC. Martyr does most of the heavy lifting with all of her debuffs and actually hits harder than other dps slots of the team. Counterattacking allows for the boss to be taken down quickly whilst the A3 ensured the team could carry out their jobs against the waves seamlessly.
