Raid Shadow Legends: Gnarlhorn Champion Guide

Gnarlhorn is a rare spirit affinity champion from the skinwalkers faction in Raid Shadow Legends. This champion has arguably one of the best abilities for control in the whole of raid. This ability allows you to place a provoke on the enemies entire team. Furthermore, his A3 ability can be used to make Gnarlhorn unkillable for 2 turns. All in all, Gnarlhorn is a brilliant protector, allowing your DPS role champions to get their hits off. He is effective in faction wars and most dungeon runs up to stage 20, which will be covered in this Gnarlhorn champion guide.

Gnarlhorn Late Game Guide

Gnarlhorn is a widely useful rare. He is a part of the Rhazin fusion, but can also be used in a variety of ways including Clan boss (as a stun target in Unkillable comps), Faction Wars and dungeons.

Skills

His A2 places AOE provoke for one turn, while the A3 places unkillable on Gnarlhorn for two turns. A3 has a three turn cooldown, so he is only vulnerable for one turn (note that Paragon cooldown is two turns). His A2 does not hit, so there is no danger of weak hits on negative magic affinity. Booking his A2 and A3 is important.

With healers and the correct speed he is unlikely to ever die. With the right supporting champions he can easily be the focus of incoming damage to stop your weaker damage dealers from dying.

Masteries

In terms of masteries Gnarlhorn can easily make do with only the basic Accuracy masteries (the showcase uses only them).

The full masteries are provided only as an illustration if you were to full level and 6 star him. He would not benefit from TM increases from arcane celerity for example, as this will reduce the amount of time his unkillable buff is up. Bulwark would be a suitable T6 mastery as this will reduce the damage taken by other members of the team, but is not required. Eagle Eye would also be a good option if you are struggling with ACC.

Gear & Stats Build

High Accuracy, Defence and low HP work best for Gnarlhorn as you want the mobs to target him. High defence and low HP mean he can be the target of enemy attacks even if his provoke fails to land, and be tanky enough to survive on the turn when his unkillable is down.

It is possible to use any set as long as you achieve the necessary parameters, however in this build the Frost set is used. It works when the champion is hit. Frostbite set is also a good choice. Furthermore, it is recommended to 5 star ascend Gnarlhorn so the additional benefit from the ring and amulet can be realised. His accuracy needs to be over 200 for the highest dungeon levels to land his AOE provoke reliably.

Recommended Main Stats

  • Chest: Def%
  • Gloves: Def%
  • Boots: Speed
  • Ring: HP
  • Amulet: HP
  • Banner (ACC/Def)
  • Substats: acc/speed/def%/hp%

Faction Wars Runs

We’ll start the showcase with Faction wars and the following sections will look at all other dungeons.

In Faction wars up to crypt 21 having one or two Gnarlhorns and completing the stages manually allows to easily get the 3 stars required to fully complete FW. Bringing a healer like Steelskull is recommended. Constantly provoking the waves of enemies allows your damage dealers free reign without fear of getting targeted. In FW boss fights, Gnarlhorn is not ideal because he cannot apply to CC the bosses, and due to being a weak build by design, will die prematurely preventing you from getting full rewards. Nonetheless, he is an MVP support for all other stages.

Dungeon Runs

Spider 20

While Gnarlhorn is not as versatile in Spider as Paragon, on Spider 20 he can be useful for the CC and tanking pursposes. His aoe provoke means that your squishy damage dealers will not be targeted (TM reduction is a must to prevent too many big spider AOE attacks). At level 50, it also means he is likely to have the lowest HP, and is more likely to be the target of the attacks.

In a freeze set he brings additional CC, effectively locking out some spiderlings for two turns. His unkillable ability lasts two turns, this means even if he does become dangerously low on health, he is unlikely to be killed by the spiderlings or the poisons straight away. Additional support is essential here however, and MM is a perfect candidate.

An example team and tactics for spider 20 would be as follows:

  1. Gnarlhorn (lead, def aura, AOE provoke)
  2. Apothecary (healing, increase speed)
  3. Miscreated Monster (shields, ally protect, stun)
  4. Fayne (Decrease attack/defence/weaken/poison/ TM reduction)
  5. Coldheart (Damage dealer, TM reduction)

Dragon 20

Another dungeon where Gnarlhorn can be useful is the Dragon. If you’re encountering problems on the waves, the provoke and unkillable combination that Gnarlhorn provides can help you with this and prevent your damage dealers from untimely demise.

This run is aimed at showcasing some semi-budget compositions:

  1. Gnarlhorn (lead)
  2. Reliquary Tender
  3. Apothecary
  4. Coldheart
  5. Scyl of the Drakes
